An Outstanding Community of Fund-racers

Hamilton, ON— This past weekend, Paris to Ancaster: A Ride for Research (P2A) saw dedicated cyclists take the fundraising baton from walkers and runners in the Around the Bay Road Race (ATB) who supported St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton earlier this spring. To date, through both events our dedicated community has raised over $600,000 for St. Joe’s!

“We are truly grateful for our partnership with ATB and P2A,” said Sera Filice-Armenio, president and CEO of St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation. “It is an honour to have the support of so many fundraisers and the amazing generosity of individuals, teams, donors and sponsors. Our community’s belief in keeping St. Joe’s at the forefront of innovative patient care and life-changing research is inspiring.”

Many race fundraisers are grateful patients taking part because St. Joe’s helped them become healthy enough to do so. Others have witnessed St. Joe’s compassion and care while sitting beside a loved one who needed to be in our Hospital. Still others recognize that St. Joe’s gives so much to the community and they want to give back, often for patients they may never know.

Funds raised through ATB and P2A have supported vital mental health and addiction programs and surgical equipment that enabled innovative robotic surgery for our patients with cancer. Dollars raised are designated to research in life-saving kidney transplants, novel palliative care approaches and respiratory health, an area of world-renowned expertise at St. Joe’s.

In 2018, our ATB fundraising Community Champion, Joseph Mancinelli, went the distance and then some for St. Joe’s. He set a new record as our top fundraiser ever, raising an absolutely amazing $155,075! With the hard work of his team mates from LiUNA Lending a Hand, together they brought in a grand total of $299,260 for St. Joe’s.

Leo Perri, our Community Champion for the 3rd year of our partnership with P2A, and his team mates from Delta Bingo, exceeded their fundraising goal with a final tally of more than $20,000 to support research at the Hospital!

“Whether it’s delivering exceptional patient care today, or conducting vital research that leads to life-changing discoveries tomorrow, St. Joe’s is committed to going the distance for the health of our community,” said Ms. Filice-Armenio. “The funds raised through ATB and P2A demonstrate that our community is committed to going the distance for St. Joe’s too.”

Next year St. Joe’s will again fundraise through these iconic community events! Mark your calendars early to join us at the Around the Bay Road Race on Sunday, March 31st, 2019 and Paris to Ancaster: A Ride for Research on Sunday, April 28th, 2019! To learn more visit stjoesfoundation.ca.
