Hope Healing Discovery

Our Funding Priorities

It's the generous support of donors and friends of St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation that brings to life all kinds of vital hospital projects to sustain the good health of our community in so many ways. Currently, there are a few areas of funding priority, including:

  • Hospital Renewal
  • Vital Equipment
  • Mental Health & Addiction Care
  • Research
  • Emerging Needs

Learn more about each of these funding priorities and how your gift can inspire hope, healing and discovery at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton now and in the future.

Hospital Renewal

As our population expands, our Hospital is serving more patients than ever before. We can respond to the growing need for care by making sure our facilities are up to date. Currently we're planning redevelopment projects for:

  • The Charlton Campus Dialysis Centre to provide the more than 300 patients we serve with more spacious and private treatment bays and their families with comfortable waiting areas.
  • An Integrated Cardiology Service to bring our current cardiology diagnostics, services and programs together and at the same time establish an Urgent Cardiology Clinic.

Your generosity will ensure we have the funds needed to expand, update and enhance our Hospital.

Vital Equipment

Whether we’re in need of specialized instruments to operate our surgical robot or a new x-ray or ultrasound machine in Diagnostic Imaging, equipment is essential to everything we do. But with regular wear and tear and technological advancements, our tools often need to be repaired or replaced.

Your support of vital equipment at St. Joe’s has the power to improve care, enhance the treatments we provide and help patients get better, sooner.

Mental Health & Addiction Care

In Canada, 1 in 4 individuals will experience a mental illness or addiction in their lifetime, and each and every one of us will be touched by it in some way. Here at St. Joe’s, we’re the regional lead in mental health care and a trusted place our community turns to when they need these services most. We treat a broad spectrum of mental illnesses, including anxiety, depression, eating disorders, bi-polar disorder, addiction, schizophrenia, and more.

With your help, we're planning to expand our services in the areas of:

  • Youth mental health
  • Emergency psychiatry
  • Short stay care for individuals who are experiencing a mental health crisis

When you support mental health and addiction services, you’re helping us deliver compassionate care in a safe, stigma-free and friendly environment.

Here at St. Joe’s, there are more than 500 clinicians, scientists, students and staff working on essential healthcare research. They’re bringing us one step closer to discovering new treatments and even cures that may one day benefit patients all over the world.

Our Hospital is focusing on four key areas of research:

  • Kidney and urinary
  • Respirology and thoracic surgery
  • Mental health and addiction
  • Innovation in healthcare delivery

Your support will enable St. Joe’s to provide our laboratories with knowledgeable research staff and the specialized tools needed to keep improving care.

Emerging Needs

While some donors choose to designate their gifts to a program that’s near and dear to their hearts, often the best way to make an impact is by giving an unrestricted gift that enables us to respond to important needs as they arise. This special kind of support is what gives St. Joe’s the flexibility to cover unforeseen expenses, equip busy clinics, complete major redevelopment projects, and more.

When you give a gift in support of our emerging needs, you can be sure that St. Joe’s will put your gift to good use in the area of care that will benefit most from your generosity.
